2008 Credit Union National Growth Study
The 20-80 rule does hold true when it comes to membership growth. In the last three years the top 20% of credit unions accounted for 99% of membership growth. Since the beginning of 2000 nearly half of all credit unions have had net membership loss. The situation is most dire for small and medium sized credit unions. However, across all asset sizes there are credit unions that excel at growth.
This study explores the key drivers of growth. The analysis is based on surveys of 118 credit union CEOs with assets ranging from $10 Million to $2 Billion. Additionally, we examined 5300 reports from 2000 through 2006.
The study contrasts the strategies credit unions are espousing with the business strategies that statistically have show to be most successful. Key information about credit union CEO attitudes about mergers is also covered in this ground breaking report.
